Gaijin’s Crossout – The Basics

Register

Gaijin Entertainment’s Crossout is a massively multiplayer online action game set in a post-apocalyptic world. It gives players the chance to craft their very own battle machines, using interchangeable parts, weapons and armour. The game launched into closed beta in April 2016 and has been in open beta since May 2017. Gaijin’s Crossout is a fun and frantic title, available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Imagine a Mad Max setting where you could build your own vehicle and battle through the wasteland. That’s exactly the kind of post-apocalyptic MMO action you can find in Crossout, a title from developer Targem Games and publisher Gaijin Entertainment. Here’s everything you need to know about getting started with the game.

Crossout – Basic Features

There are several different elements and gameplay mechanics you can find in Gaijin’s Crossout, making it a unique game:

  • Unique vehicles. Perhaps the biggest draw of Crossout is the fact that each player can build their own custom battle vehicle. With complete customisation available, you can craft the ultimate deadly machine to take on your foes.
  • Huge arsenal of weapons. Your imagination is the limit when it comes to loading out your weapons. From machine guns and rocket launchers to chainsaws and stealth generators, Crossout has it all.
  • Explosive PVP online battles. With a thriving community of players, you can select a faction and take on enemy players in fierce battles. There are also bots that you can deploy to make battles even more interesting.
  • Trade and cooperate. It’s not just a game where you blow each other to pieces either. You can trade and sell the gear you collect to other players in Crossout.
  • Advanced damage model. As you battle your way across the post-apocalyptic world, you’ll deal damage to all areas of your opponent’s vehicles. Each part affects the vehicle’s performance, so aim carefully.

Many of these features are available through your very own garage. Here, you can build new advanced mechanisms, sell parts on the auction house, and improve and modify your vehicle. As well as PVP battles, there are also PVE elements, letting you battle AI enemies and earn experience.

Crossout – Vehicle Building Guide

One of the main components of Crossout is building a vehicle that’s capable of smashing through your enemies. To do so, you’ll have to choose various parts and attach them to your main rig. As you add parts, you’ll increase your power score, which in turn affects the types of players you’ll be placed against. The higher your power score, the more damage you can do.

On the opposite side of this coin is your shield, which effectively determines how much HP you have. You can equip armour to raise this number. Certain parts will boost both your shield and your power score.

There are three main elements that make up your vehicle – frames, wheels, and cabins. The cabin serves as the main basis of your machine, and there are several types to choose from. Each of these types corresponds with a different play style. Frames are largely for aesthetic purposes, determining the length and shape of your machine.

Wheels, unsurprisingly, are an important part of your rig. They come in an array of shapes and sizes, and they help both your armour score and power score. Larger ones tend to be more cumbersome but add extra armour. You’ll also get steerable wheels which can increase your handling.

Crossout – Beginner Items

As you play through Gaijin’s Crossout, you’ll encounter all number of different items. Each has its own purpose, but when you’re first starting out, it can be difficult to know what to equip. Below, we’ve highlighted some of the key ones to focus on to start with:

  • Weapon radiator. When you fire weapons (particularly shotguns), you’ll find that they overheat quickly. With a weapon radiator, you can keep firing for longer, maximising your damage output.
  • Car jack. There’s nothing as frustrating as flipping your vehicle and not being able to get back up. With the car jack, you can right yourself without having to rope in other players.
  • Fuel barrel. You wouldn’t want to explore the wastes without enough fuel now, would you? With a fuel barrel, you can collect fuel at the end of the matches you win. You only need one, as they don’t stack.
  • Scope. If you’re planning on sniping enemies from afar with a canon, you’re going to need a scope.
  • Radar and radio. If you don’t want enemies sneaking up on you, having a radar and radio increases the range from which you can detect them. Neat.

Once you’ve got all the essentials in place, it’s time to take out your rig on a test drive. Press the ‘Test Drive’ button and hit the proving grounds. Here, you can get a feel for how your vehicle handles and can make adjustments. You can also take aim against a replica of your rig, so you can be sure it’s robust enough.

Crossout – Weapons

So, you might be wondering which weapons you should be choosing. Luckily for you, we’ve outlined the key ones and what they’re used for:

  • Melee weapons. If you want to get all up in another player’s business, this is the perfect choice. There are many different kinds, and they’re a great way of ramming players away from objectives.
  • Machine guns. Most players start with these, and there’s a good reason. It’s the ideal utility weapon. It does a small amount of damage, but you can equip multiple. Good over short-medium range.
  • Cannons. If you want to keep your precious vehicle away from the action, a canon is a great long-rang weapon. With a few hits from afar, you can easily take out an enemy’s machine.
  • Shotguns. These are deadly at close-range, although you can only fire off a few shots before you overheat. Ideal when paired with a melee weapon.

Crossout – Final Words

So, now you know a little bit about how the basics about how Gaijin’s Crossout MMO works. With some patience, tinkering, and getting utterly destroyed in the game, you’ll soon learn what works for you. We recommend trying different builds and loadouts to see which one best matches your playstyle. Happy hunting!
