There is a forum where is analyzed the recommended savings for each upgrade, the resources are gained through the shop with the common in-game currency or through points in dungeons.
The pieces are gained trough limited events (things like christmas and others).

All upgrades have luck involved, some give advantages (less spending) or luck as a must.
