Crossout – Game Review
Genre: Vehicular Combat MMO
Developer: Targem Games
Publisher: Gaijin Entertainment
Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
Overview
Crossout is a free-to-play vehicular combat game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Players build fully customizable, combat-ready vehicles from scrap and send them into chaotic battles against others in PvP and PvE modes. Think of it as Mad Max meets LEGO with guns.
Gameplay – ★★★★☆
The core gameplay of Crossout revolves around one brilliant idea: build your own war machine and take it into battle. The driving and combat feel responsive, and the modular damage system adds a strategic edge—losing a wheel or weapon mid-fight can turn the tide of battle.
7/10

There are several modes including:
PvP battles (6v6 objective-based skirmishes)
Raids (PvE co-op missions)
Clan wars, brawls, and even battle royales
The vehicle crafting system is incredibly deep. You can make anything from a nimble buggy to a hulking tank. Creativity is rewarded, and the Workshop community constantly shares insane, clever designs.
That said, matchmaking can sometimes feel unbalanced, especially when high-power-score players squash newer ones. And while the driving is fun, terrain physics and camera controls can occasionally be frustrating.
Visuals & Sound – ★★★☆☆
Graphically, Crossout isn’t cutting-edge, but it’s solid. The post-apocalyptic environments are serviceable if somewhat repetitive. Vehicle models are well-detailed, especially given how modular they are.
Explosions are satisfying, and the audio does its job. Gunfire has punch, engines rumble, and scraping metal sounds chaotic—though the soundtrack is forgettable and the voicework minimal.

Progression & Customization – ★★★★☆
Customization is Crossout’s crown jewel. Every vehicle is built part-by-part, with realistic weight, structure, and physics. Weapons, wheels, armor, boosters, radar, and cabins all affect performance.
Progression involves grinding for parts or buying them from the market. Factions offer unique parts and blueprints, adding variety.
However, the grind can be intense. Higher-tier parts take a long time to earn, and many players eventually feel tempted to spend money to speed things up.
Monetization – ★★☆☆☆
Crossout is free-to-play, but it's very monetized. There’s a premium currency, paid battle passes, DLC packs, and a player-driven market. While it’s possible to play without spending a dime, progression slows down dramatically unless you're very patient or very skilled.
PvP balance sometimes feels affected by gear disparities—rare parts often give tangible advantages. This leads to accusations of pay-to-win, especially in competitive modes.
Final Verdict – ★★★★☆
Crossout is a unique and thrilling vehicle combat sandbox that rewards creativity and experimentation. It’s one of the few games where how you build your loadout genuinely affects your gameplay. The battles are exciting, and the community designs are inspiring.
However, the monetization and grind-heavy progression can drag down the experience, especially for new or casual players.
Pros:
Deep, creative vehicle crafting
Intense, fun vehicular combat
Active community with shared blueprints
Variety of PvP and PvE content
Cons:
Grind-heavy progression
Pay-to-win concerns in PvP
Limited map variety
Clunky camera and terrain physics at times
Score: 7.5/10
