Generals: Art of War is a free to play strategy MMO game from developer ApexPoint. It’s a browser-based game, meaning that anyone with an active internet connection can log on and play for free. It uses a modern setting and allows players to reshape the world map as they develop their army.
Like many RTS games, Generals: Art of War starts players off with a small base and a few resources. From here, you must develop your army, increase your territory, and defeat enemy players. However, it’s not a fast or easy process – other players will be vying for the same pool of resources. If you’re not careful, another military leader will crush you before you even get started.
As you farm more resources and increase the size of your army, you’ll unlock new technology, buildings and troops. All of these are interconnected, and you have to balance your progress in each sector. If you try and rush one area, you’ll soon find that the others will be lacking.
Players in Generals: Art of War have to actually think like a military leader. Will you try and conquer everyone in your path? Or will you try and make alliances that benefit both parties? The choice is yours, and each has its merits.
There are a few interesting mechanics in the game. Firstly, you’ll find that each day you log on, you’ll get an experience boost. This helps you build up your army and base from attack. You can also equip hero units, each of which gives you a different bonus.
Although there’s nothing too ground-breaking with this game, it does the fundamentals of RTS games right. You’ll have to think strategically and balance your development if you’re to progress. The fact that there’s a strong multiplayer element is a huge plus, as it allows you to test your skills against other players. The art style is also fairly unique and attractive.
